Summary of this DVD... | ||
This is the A&E Biography study of my favorite author, Ernest Hemingway. You actually get to hear a recording of his voice, so it was worth it just for that. The show is narrated by Marielle Hemingway, his grandaughter and includes commentary by his sons, Jack and Gregory. Seeing Gregory was quite poignant as he died not too long after this was made. Jack died too, but not in as tragic a circumstance.
This type of DVD is good for...
anyone interested in the basics of (arguably) the most interesting author of the 20th Century. His life has produced many novels and films - based on his life, not just his fiction. He led quite a life.
I especially liked... | ||
learning about some of the things he did along the way from the point of view of some of his family. You can tell they try very hard to be fair. I liked seeing his eldest son talk about his 4th wife.
I didn't like... | ||
the way he was treated medically with electric shock treatments at the end of his life. I found that to be quite shocking for the 1960's.
When I finished viewing this DVD I wanted to...
read more about my favorite author.
I recommend this DVD because...
if you are at all interested in the life of Ernest Hemingway, this is a fine place to start your research, besides reading A Moveable Feast. I like that they quote from my favorite book so much, too.
