Summary of this DVD... | ||
This is a movie based on the Edith Wharton novel that won the Pulitzer Prize. The setting is New York of the 1870's among the upper class. The story is about a guy named Newland Archer, who is very proper and does what everyone thinks he should. He is engaged to marry the perfect woman for him, May. Only he meets her glamorous cousin, Ellen, played by Michelle Pfeiffer in all her glorious beauty and becomes obsessed with her. One character in this film makes a noble choice. I will not give away who that character is, but all the rest are diminished by the greatness of this one character's sacrifice. You will have to see the film to understand my meaning. And, you might not agree with my conclusions.
I didn't like... | ||
the fact that the film is so long and slow moving. I almost screamed at Daniel Day Lewis to "Do Something!" at more than one point.
When I finished viewing this DVD I wanted to...
have the time back. I hope the book is better than the movie or I will think those Pulitzer Prize guys need their heads examined.
The cast of this DVD... | ||
is good. Daniel Day Lewis, Wynona Ryder (as May) and Michelle Pfeiffer do a good job.
I recommend this DVD because...
it is the only movie where Daniel Day Lewis is remotely close to anything attractive. He almost is here. But, I still don't really care for his "acting" style.
