This is another one of my most-loved short story collections. McCammon has a quirky style that mixes humor with a brand of horror that changes from story to story. Some of the stories are gruesome, and others contain a large amount of social commentary and only light horror. They run the gamut from creepy and unsettling to heavy gore. All of them are effective in their own way.

Horror fans who appreciate beautiful and effective writing.

I genuinely like every story in this collection. The ones that I love most are "Pin" (unsettling) and "Nightcrawlers" (social commentary).

Short stories are the ideal format for McCammon. His writing is exquisite and often reads like poetry. It is vivid and effective at every turn. His plotting tends to be weak, but in short form, he crafts stories that are like magic.
