Summary of this Book...
This book is a sequel to Chronicles of Avonlea. In this book, the reference to Anne Shirley of Green Gables is minimal, as fifteen stories are in the book and Anne Shirley is in only one of them. The stories are: Aunt Cynthia’s Persian Cat, The Materializing of Cecil, Her Father’s Daughter, Jane’s Baby, The Dream-Child, The Brother Who Failed, The Return of Hester, The Little Brown Book of Miss Emily, Sara’s Way, The Son of his Mother, The Education of Betty, In Her Selfless Mood, The Conscience Case of David Bell, Only a Common Fellow, and Tannis of the Flats. From comedy to tragedy, a lot of variety exists in these stories. For example: Aunt Cynthia's Persian Cat is the hilarious story of two sisters, Sue and Ismay, who hate their aunt's cat, Fatima. When the aunt goes on vacation she asks them to take care of the cat, but when the cat is missing, all kinds of things happen to the sisters, and all in good fun. Then, in Tannis of the Flats, racism is handled delicately. In addition, a few otherworldly elements are introduced as in The Dream-Child, where a grieving mother is called mysteriously to the seaside, where she believes the cry belongs to the ghost of her baby. In the Return of Hester, the dying Hester forces her sister not to marry the man she loves, but when the two fall in love and are desperate, Hester intervenes from the other side and gives her blessings. Although most of the societal understanding of the early twentieth century is much different than that of today, these stories are written skillfully, and they end well and happily for the most part. I especially liked to read them before going to bed, because they were so entertaining.
This type of Book is good for...

the stories are so different from each other, even if coincidences play a big part in the plots. Also the writing style and the use of language are excellent.
