Summary of this DVD... | ||
This was a VHS tape that I got. It appears to be a bit different from the DVD of the same title. This is the story of the making of three Chaplin films, The Kid, The Gold Rush and Cithy Lights. There are extensive interviews with his leading ladies, including his second wife, Lita Grey. Not surprisingly, they all thought Charlie Chaplin was a genius and a perfectionist. He had quite a difficult and trying relationship with Virginia Cherrill, the leading lady in City Lights, which is often regarded as his masterpiece.
This type of DVD is good for...
anyone who wants to see Chaplin at work, as himself and dressed as the Little Tramp.
I especially liked... | ||
the part where he is figuring out what to do in City Lights to explain why the blind girl thinks that the tramp is rich. It took him a long time to find a solution to that problem.
When I finished viewing this DVD I wanted to...
see the movies in question, at least City Lights and The Kid, which I have ordered from Amazon.
I recommend this DVD because...
if you are interested in Chaplin it will help you to learn how he worked and created his films.
