Summary of this Book...
This book was one I read on my Kindle. It is the complete history of how Nazi leader Adolph Hitler came to power and led his nation to ruin, while murdering millions of people from 1933 to 1945. It is a long slow slog to power and the notion that this monster was able to act as a world leader, negotiating treaty after treaty with the gullible dolts from other countries is astonishing. It could not have been much easier for Hitler to do what he did and run roughshod over the people of Austria, Poland and most of the other countries in his path. If he had succeeded in this horror, it would have been a far different world that we would have than that of today. It is a cautionary and alarming tale of deceit and evil. I found the reading went much quicker when the Third Reich was failiing and falling, maybe because that was much easier to handle emotionally. What Hitler did and what the people of Germany went along with is so shocking that it is unbelievable. Yet, it happened and it could happen again. Civilized society was on the rise in the 1920s and 1930s. There is no reason for this monstrosity other than greed and pure evil and hatred. I was relieved when Hitler was no more, I'll tell you that. It was sad that Roosevelt died a few days before Hitler did - Hitler (being a nut) took Roosevelt's death as a positive thing for him.
This type of Book is good for...
anyone who wants to learn about how the world was almost destroyed by a German monster.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
maybe take a break. This took me a long time (months) to read, but I stuck with it. The names are a bit confusing and there are so many of them that I couldn't keep track. It was a relief when all Hitler's henchmen started to turn on each other and meet their individual demises at the hands of their stupid leader.
The author of this Book...
lived in Germany during the time all this happened, so he has a first hand account of it all.
I recommend this Book because...
the best way to ensure that we don't repeat this horror is to learn about it. Everyone should read about what happened so that it never happens again. I fear with Iran on the rise, it will happen in a way that none of us can even imagine. I was shocked to learn about Hitler's scorched earth policy toward his own people. I guess they were responsible for him, but it was still a shock how much he truly hated the people he represented for so long.
Further Comments... | ||
Prime Minister Neville Chamberlin's policy of appeasement opened the door for Hitler to pounce in country after country. I think our country, right now is doing something similar with Iran. I hope that Congress doesn't go along to get along a la Chamberlin.
