Summary of this DVD... | ||
This is the masterpiece PBS miniseries, Season 1. Ross Poldark is a soldier for England in the U.S. Revolution, so he's fighting a losing battle for three years. He returns home to Cornwall to find things have deteriorated to the point of desperation. His father has died, his beautiful girlfriend is engaged to his cousin, Frances, and his copper mines are abandoned, everything appears to be ruined. He has to summon the strength of character to either leave or go on with his life. He chooses to stay and fight all those lined up against him in rebuilding his copper business and earning the respect of the community. He saves a skullery girl from a terrible fate, becomes attracted to her, marries her and falls desperately in love with his Demelza. They have a daughter and then things go horribly wrong and the last episode is quite a cliffhanger, so be prepared for that.
This type of DVD is good for...
anyone who likes a good series set in Cornwall in the late 1700's.
I especially liked... | ||
Aidan Turner with Eleanor Tomlinson. She is particularly brilliant and he is pretty appealing, too.
I didn't like... | ||
the wig that Poldark wears because it looks fake.
When I finished viewing this DVD I wanted to...
continue watching the series. This is one of the few DVD's that I have purchased - I did it on the recommendation of many friends and I do not regret it. I am sure I will watch it a few times before Season 2 premiers.
