Summary of this DVD... | ||
This legendary show aired in the early 1980's. I remember loving it - it was different than anything else. Recently, we watched all of NYPD Blue and loved it so I decided to get the first couple of seasons, used on DVD. This first season introduces all the ensemble characters to the viewer. The main thing that is emphasized is the relationships among the cops and the lawyers, rather than the actual cases they handle. Each episode starts with a roll call in the morning where Michael Conrad's character tells them what their assignments are, finishing up with a caring, "Be Careful out there." The city is a fictional one, but it has gang violence and all the problems that cities in this country still deal with.
I didn't like... | ||
the fact that this seemed so much more dated than NYPD Blue does. I was really surprised about that, having watched and rediscovered how fine a show NYPD Blue really is. A lot of the same actors appear in both shows, but a lot of the main cast of Hill Street Blues passed away at young ages.
The cast of this DVD... | ||
is wonderful. My favorites have to be Hill and Renko and I think they were my favorites when I first watched the show, also. I am not a big fan of Daniel J. Travanti's acting, but I do enjoy Veronica Hamel and also, David Caruso as the Irish gang leader, Shamrock.
I recommend this DVD because...
if you want to see a good show that was considered ground breaking in the 1980's, this is a fine one to check out. It isn't nearly as well written, though, as NYPD Blue, in my opinion. The humor is definitely dated as are the situations presented, for the most part.
