This movie treads the line between practicality and religious fanaticism, with very unsatisfying results. A recovering Catholic psychiatrist is appointed to diagnose a nun who murdered her baby. Is she crazy? Well... clearly.

Somehow, the psychiatrist (Jane Fonda- miscast) became a detective, hunting down backstories that didn't matter at all. Finding details that were mildly interesting but not one single bit of information that was necessary for the plot.

The entire plot is this: A nun kills her baby. The end.

The film had some nice visual elements. The fact that it takes places in Montreal added some flavor as well. Nuns speaking in Latin, townspeople speaking French, while the main dialogue was all English... it was interesting in that regard.

I watched this movie last night, and it was not as good as I expected it to be. This is was a multi-Oscar-nominated film based on a play. Generally speaking, those tend to be good.

This movie really told you everything you needed to know in the first five minutes. The entire plot was right there. They added details throughout to keep you interested in all the mysterious happenings, but it never actually told you anything... just an endless tease and backstories that don't matter in the slightest. The acting was also a fair bit cheesier than I expected. Meg Tilly (who played the crazy young nun) did alright, but I expected better. Jane Fonda and Ann Bancroft did exactly what I expected... lackluster.
