Summary of this Book...
The story of two friends who set out to catch a Greenland Shark (in a tiny rubber dinghy) and end up taking the reader on educational and philosophical journey about friendship, man's relationship to the sea and to some extent, fishing.
This type of Book is good for...
Fans of great storytelling. It is not an adventure book, nor is there a whole lot of shark contained within. I repeat: the shark is not the plot.
I especially liked...
Strøksnes has a rare talent of painting a story with a vibrancy that immerses the reader in descriptions that will stay you long after you've put it down.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read more! I wasn't ready for it to be over yet (though it likely ended when it should have).
I recommend this Book because...
It's a story about a friendship, a history lesson, a retelling of legends, a reminiscing and a warning about the ecology of the oceans. It's a story of the moments of quiet between all of those things. It is wonderful and animated, and you feel like you've sat with a good friend and talked for hours.
Further Comments...
I didn't actually count, but the shark takes up about 30 pages, I think. And I don't care. They set out to catch the shark, they end up catching the reader.
