Summary of this Book...
This is a children's book of fairy tales all crunched into one single tale. It's like a cross between R.L. Stine and The Grimm Brothers Fairy Tales, but with a little bit of an adult theme. It deals with several characters and each of their stories, although none of them end quite the way they originally did, and instead set up the plot to continue to the next one. Very well done!
This type of Book is good for...
Kids and adults both. | ||
I especially liked... | ||
Kiersten White's sense of humor, and the simplicity in how she wrote it. She literally (no pun intended) talks to advises the characters as the main story develops, and even warns them of their impending dangers. At some points the characters even talk to back to the narrator!
I didn't like... | ||
I never realized it before, but the name 'Jack' was one of the more common names in The Grimm Brothers tales. Jack is one of, if not THE, main character(s) in this, but trying to follow him as he goes from one castle to the next into each subsequent fairy tale was a little hard to follow.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read it again, so I could follow Jack a little more closely. I also want to read another of her stories, whether it's a children's book or and adult's.
This Book made me feel...
Like a kid again. It brought back a lot of memories of my own childhood.
The author of this Book...
Has also written The Paranormalcy Trilogy: 'And I Darken', The Mind Game Series:'The Chaos of Stars', 'Illusions of Fate', and 'In the Shadows'.
I recommend this Book because...
Anybody looking for a serious twist on some of their favorite childhood fairy tales (all rolled into one) would be happy to read this.
Further Comments... | ||
As a first time reader of Kiersten White, I was very impressed. She has nice prose, and her sense of humor and kinship with her adolescent audience really stands out.
