When Scott Carey tries to befriend two women who've just moved into his town and are in a relationship with each other, he finds his friendly gestures aren't welcome. The two women have set up their own restaurant in town, but because of their taboo relationship, the rest of the town doesn't like their 'sort' and would rather they just left altogether.
Scott sees it differently, and when he finds out that one of the women has signed up for the annual Thanksgiving 12K marathon, he wagers that he can beat her if she'll change her mind about their friendship.
However, Scott has more at risk than the marathon; he's slowly losing weight, but not getting any thinner!

Anybody who likes Stephen King books would be happy to read this. It's a large step out of King's normal genre of horror. It's more like a parable, in which King and his protagonist try to bring people together, even when certain ideas seem like they never could.

The brevity of 'Elevation'. He tells a simple story in a simple way with a bit of supernatural to it, while at the same time he shows us how much better this world can be if we all just learn to accept each other's differences instead of trying to change each other.

I was highly surprised how far S.K. went out of his comfort zone with this, although I've seen him do once or twice before. I honestly think he was making a mild political statement with this since he's publicly said he doesn't necessarily agree with the current president of the U.S. on many things.

As I said, Stephen King has written in many genres, most notably horror, and it's great to see him widening his talent and getting new audiences by going into new and different genres.

Anybody looking for a smile and short read before bed for a couple of nights would very much enjoy 'Elevation'.

There are actually two separate plots happening in 'Elevation', but King has magically made them intertwine into one. His vision of a better world without bigotry and hate comes through very clear with this book, and he should be commended for that!
