Summary of this Book...
Meghan, a young reporter, is putting together a story about IVF. While in the hospital ER to cover a birth, a woman is brought in on a stretcher. She has been stabbed. Meghan is drawn to her. When the doctor removes the oxygen mask, Meghan is shocked because the dead girl looks exactly like her. There are a few subplots here and, if I'm honest, I'm not even sure which the main one is meant to be. Meghan's dad disappeared following an accident on a bridge over which he was travelling. There is a double-life storyline, plus Meghan's weird and slightly depraved stalker. I chose to read this because I've never read any of the author before, but I've heard people say she writes a lot of crime fiction, which is my favourite genre. I'm not sure I would read her work again. The ending was obvious, the writing was not great, and nothing set me on fire about it. It was okay. It got better toward the end. But, that's it.
This type of Book is good for...
People who want an easy read where they don't have to think too much. Maybe, a holiday read.
I didn't like... | ||
The writing itself. I appreciate this is one of the author's earlier works, so maybe she's honed her craft since this book, but it contains everything we are told never to use when we write. Adverbs and adjectives aplenty! Passive tense. Telling, not showing. Everything.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Find something good to read.
This Book made me feel...
Disappointed. I expected a lot more from someone as successful as Mary Higgins Clark.
The author of this Book...
Yeah. Not a fan. I doubt I'll ever read her work again.
I recommend this Book because...
It is readable. It does give you something to do with your time. I didn't wholly dislike it.
I don't recommend this Book because...
It's not clever and it's not well-written.
