Summary of this Book...
This is an engaging fantasy/paranormal family adventure story that features Seraph the Raven mage, her husband Tier, and their children Jes, Lehr and Rinnie. I greatly enjoyed it and have alrady started the next book in the series (it's a "duology" of two books and this is the first). I do recommend reading this one first.

Having read and loved Brigg's "Mercy Thompson" series I had certain expectations for this book. It was very different from what I expected but still a great read overall.
This type of Book is good for...
People who like reading about fantasy, magic, alternate worlds, family dramas, paranormal, romance, and/or adventures. If the extreme violence was removed, it'd be good for all ages but it gets too dicey, especially near the end.
I especially liked...
Raven's character, Tier's strength of character, their kids, the special powers of each family member, the intricate mysteries and mysteries within mysteries, the Forest King, the healer from the traveling tribe Raven & her sons met along their journey to Taela, the growth in the emperor's character.

SPOILER ALERT:
The memory's revenge. Tier's saving of a whole host of young men's character through music and fighting practice.
I didn't like...
The book started kind of slow. I think the intro could have been a lot more concise and still have conveyed the necessary information. I would also have preferred that the book start with Raven vs Tier.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read the next one. I'd already borrowed it from the library but I made myself wait until the next night or I'd have been up past my bedtime.
This Book made me feel...
Like I was Raven.. and some of the other characters at times too. So many feelings along the way. All the feels! *Smile*
The author of this Book...
From Amazon: "Patricia Briggs is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Mercy Thompson urban fantasy series and the Alpha and Omega novels." I LOVE her Mercy Thompson series and the Alpha and Omega novels are a nice continuation of the story of one of the characters from them.
I recommend this Book because...
It was an engaging, interesting read. Great, varied, complicated characters.
I don't recommend this Book because...
It can get bogged down in the details sometimes and seems to tell more from Tier's perspective than Raven's... despite the title. Also, excessive violence.
Further Comments...
I borrowed this book from my local library.
