Summary of this Book...
This is a lovely and informative collection of poems and interesting facts set in beautiful artwork. The cover originally caught my eye and I love foxes and poetry so decided to give it a read. I greatly enjoyed the poetry and even learned a few things with the accompanying facts. What I loved most was the artwork.
This type of Book is good for...
People who like nature, poems, artwork, and/or learning.
I especially liked... | ||
The extra foxes in the book, even in unrelated poems. The clever parts of artwork (like the lone leaf on the big two page art spread near the end of the book. Some of the poems were outstanding, some were fun to read, and all were enjoyable to me.
I didn't like... | ||
That there were so very many typos... or rather, missing letters. They were mostly in the poems and also quite a few in the information at the back. This wasn't likely the authors' fault but I don't see how the editor missed so many issues. Maybe it's just a Kindle problem though and not in the actual print book. I hope so, anyway. The only other thing I didn't like was the teeny tiny font of the information sections. I really had to squint to read it and I have good eyes.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Meet the artist. And maybe do my own book of poems with the artist. I felt like I'd had a visual feast and a bunch of poetic treats.
This Book made me feel...
Inspired and more appreciative of what animals go through in the winter. I especially loved learning about the honeybees. And was astonished to read about how large a group of hibernating snakes can get.
The author of this Book...
From Amazon: "Biography Joyce Sidman is known for her fresh, inventive poetry for children. Her award-winning books include Dark Emperor (A Newbery Honor Book), Song of the Water Boatman and Red Sings from Treetops (both Caldecott Honor Books), Butterfly Eyes (Cybils Award), and This Is Just to Say (Claudia Lewis Poetry Award). A recent starred review in School Library Journal said, "Sidman's ear is keen, capturing many voices. Her skill as a poet accessible to young people is unmatched." Born in Connecticut, Joyce now lives in Minnesota. Visit her at www.joycesidman.com. "
I recommend this Book because...
It was a joy. I think it'd be fun for kids too, though some parents might be squeamish about some of the details shared. I'm sure my younger nephews would love it and I certainly enjoyed it.
Further Comments... | ||
It was the perfect read for me on this snowy winter night.
