Summary of this Book...
This is the fourth book in Cass' "The Selection" series and the first featuring Eadlyn Schreave, heir to the crown of her fictional/alternate future country. While the first three books featured the story of her mother, America, and eventual romance to her father, this book focuses on their firstborn's Bachelorette-like husband search. Only in this case, it's more of a distraction for the nation than a desired search. And I found Eadlyn a lot less likable than America. Despite that, somehow I found myself glued to the pages and just couldn't put the book down. Maybe the cast of would-be suitors or the continued stories of my favorite characters from the first three books did it. Maybe it was just the nice action-paced way Cass writes, but it was riveting, even when it was exasperating.
This type of Book is good for...
People who like young adult fiction, romance, stories about royalty, alternate futures, family drama, fast-paced reading and/or political intrigue.
I especially liked... | ||
The characters of most of the "Elite" (final six) male selectees, with Kile, Hale, Ean, Henri (and Henri's translator, Erik), being my personal favorites. I liked Eadlyn's brothers a lot too, and her maid. I liked that Leger became the commanding General and Lucy and Marlee stayed in the closest circle of friends for America.
I didn't like... | ||
All the "giggling" ... she even had the guys giggling. I'm guessing she used the word giggle in some form more than 20 times. That's what exasperated me. Also, Eadlyn's character was inconsistent, except in that she acted like a spoiled brat most of the time. I did like that she made sacrifices for the good of her family and country, but I didn't like how she treated her maid, her suitors, and especially how she treated her twin brother when his fiancee arrived.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read the next one, because we were left with a cliffhanger and I sure hope Eadlyn grows up and makes a wise choice in the romantic department and finds a way to make things right with her twin brother.
This Book made me feel...
Incredulous at times... exasperated at times, but mostly like I was seeing inside a very interesting royal drama crossed with a tamer than TV Bachelorette show.
The author of this Book...
From Amazon: "Kiera Cass is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Selection series and The Siren. She is a wife and mom and too many other things to list. If she could make a crown out of anything, it would be the unending tears of her readers. You can learn more about Kiera and her books at www.kieracass.com."
I recommend this Book because...
It was an engaging read, even when it irritated me.
I don't recommend this Book because...
See what I didn't like, above.
Further Comments... | ||
I borrowed this book from my local library. I have already checked out the next book (which I believe is the last in the series so hopefully not another cliffhanger ending).
