Summary of this Book...
I listened to the audiobook version of this, and I really enjoyed it. I chose this audiobook, which is read by Bob Mortimer himself, because I absolutely adore this man. He makes me laugh every time I see him on TV. He is a master storyteller, always injecting his own humour into the tales. So, I was really keen to listen to this. If I'm honest, I was a little disappointed at first. Not by the autobiography itself, ut by Bob's reading of it. He is slightly hesitant and stumbles over words quite a lot. He isn't nearly as fluid as he is on TV. I did het into it before too long, though. I was surprised at how serious he is. He tells us how, as a child, he was painfully shy. His father died when he was eight years old, and he became clingy towards his mother after that. He is the youngest of four children, and I felt for the young Bob. He really had a hard time. Once he moved on to discussing his meeting of Vic Reeves, and subsequent teaming up with him, the book became a lot funnier, more what you would expect from Bob Mortimer. He also seemed to get into reading it a lot more fully. He made me laugh out loud a lot. All in all, I really enjoyed this book. It surprised me, and I found myself really feeling sorry for Bob. I wasn't expecting that. But it gives context to his life today. Very good.
This type of Book is good for...
Anyone who loves a good, funny, entertaining yarn. Despite my initial problems with Bob's narration, I still recommend listening to this. Hearing Bob's story in his own voice is much better than reading it in yours.
