Before We Were Yours is a very emotional book, excellently written. I was pulled into the horrific events of this group of young children from the very beginning. There was not a dull moment in the book. This book is about 5 children who get hauled off to an orphanage, after their father dies and their mother falls ill. They keep hope that their mother will come and get them, but eventually hope is lost. The book outlines a lot of the atrocities the children go through at the orphanage. The book goes back and forth between the past and the present. In the present, a young woman, Avery, embarks on a mission to uncover family secrets to get answers to her grandmother's life.

anyone who likes historic fiction and likes to read about families that gets separated, then find each other again.

that I was pulled along with Avery, in the present, through scandal, lies and more secrets. I was intrigued, as families' secrets became entwined and then unraveled.

This book took me on a rollercoaster of emotions and was well worth the read.
