Summary of this Book...
"To Kill A Mockingbird" is set in a sleepy southern town in the 1930's. It is narrated by young Scout. This book deals head-on with life and predjudice when Scout's father, a respected lawyer, is chosen to defend a black man wrongly accused of rape. 9-year-old Scout learns an important lesson when she, her older brother Jem, and best friend Dill sneak into the courtroom to watch the trial.
I especially liked... | ||
I think the author, Haper Lee, did a wonderful job in depicting racism in the 1930's. I also liked young Scout's point of view- it wasn't the usual adult perspective.
I didn't like... | ||
I found that the book lacked development of plot when I read it. The story seemed to have no direction until the very end.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
After reading this book, I wanted to re-read it to find parts I had overlooked. Because I had only read it one time, I missed good clues of foreshadowing and important parts to the story.
This Book made me feel...
I was very angry when I read about Tom Robinson's trial. I knew (and I think everyone else that reads this book, too) that he was innocent.
The author of this Book...
I think the author of this book was probably thinking about her own childhood when she wrote this story. Scout seems to be a very realistic character with many believeable qualities that all children have.
I recommend this Book because...
I did not really like this book, but anyone that likes very realistic characters should read "To Kill A Mockingbird".
I don't recommend this Book because...
I did not like this story because it is really hard to follow. Each chapter is a different event in Scout's life that does not have much impact later on.
Further Comments... | ||
I did not enjoy this book because I overlooked many key elements that develop the plot. If you choose to read this, definitely re-read it so you can better understand the story.
