She shows you how to get to the core of your writing by listening to your spirit and using it to help guide your work. Goldberg offers many suggestions and useful tips to start writing as well as to continue with it, the main point being to write every day about anything.

The casual tone and the advice that we incorporate our writing into our life's routine as well as using our life to write about. "It is also about using writing as your practice, as a way to help you penetrate your life and become sane."

Buy lots of notebooks and fill them up.


Write down the little things that I experience during my day. Write about anything and everything, every day.

Encouraged, inspired and a need to be creative.

"Natalie Goldberg is a writer, poet and teacher." She is also a painter and has displayed her works in Taos, New Mexico. Over the years she has taught many writing workshops in the U.S. She also appeared in an Oprah Winfrey segement in 2000 about spirituality and writing.

The ideas are fresh and original, even though the book was published in 1986. The casual and sometimes funny narration makes it an easy read. The suggestions are useful and inspiring.

The only thing I can complain about is that I wish it were longer. However, this author has written more books on the subject of writing that I intend to check out.

I just saw this book on the shelf at the Indigo Bookstore as well as a small pocket-sized version.
