Summary of this Book...
The real conflict in the book is between the god of Light and the goddess of Darkness. When the goddess gave birth to thier last son, the fire god, she was burned while giving labor. She then fled to the underworld in shame of her appearance, and hid there until the god came to reclaim her and comfort her. But when the god saw how terrible her injuries were, he renounced her and left her trapped in the underworld. Ever since then the god placed his two immortal children of Light, Prince Tsukishiro and Princess Teruhi, as his rulers on earth, and commanded them to make the whole world of Toyoashihara followers of the Light, and rid it of all darkness (Stick with me here, I know it sounds confusing but it is definitely an excellent read!). But the people of darkness still withstand the leadership of the two Immortal Children of Light and war plagues the world.

Ammidst this conflict, a whole new story unfolds. A fifteen-year-old girl named Saya struggles to discover who she truly is. She is an orphan girl who was taken in by an old couple when she was six, and has ever since then spent her time worshipping the Light. But when a group of strangers happen to come upon the girl one day, they reveal to her her true self. She is the Water Maiden, a reincarnation of the Goddess' daughter. Now Saya must choose which side to take and how to end this war.
I especially liked...
The plot twists! You never know what will happen next! Another thing that I found fantastic was the connection the author makes to the reader. I find myself knowing exactly how Saya must feel at times, and notice how we are alike -- struggles to fit in, be yourself, and do the right thing. A book that presents no connection to the reader might as well not be a book at all. This book, however, has got it all.
I didn't like...
Nothing. This book is hands down the best book I've ever read. Even better than Harry Potter, which I have an obsession with.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read it again! So I did. *grins*
This Book made me feel...
So happy inside. Just everything seemed to connect with me and I wanted to hug Noriko for writing the best book ever! This book seemed to be custom made for me, it had everything I loved -- action, adventure, conflict, drama, even romance! Whatever genre you like, it's there.
The author of this Book...
I really admire. Unfortunately it seems she didn't get enough recognition for this book as she should have. It went out of print early on, and I just yesterday got my own copy (:)) of it. Anyone who reads it loves it, and I don't know why she didn't get as much fame as she deserved. But the people who are lucky enough to read it know how wonderful it is. Heck, it wouldn't be selling for $180 a copy if it was trash (although I got a better price)! I know Noriko has another book coming out soon, but I don't know when it will be out or what it will be about.
I recommend this Book because...
Because it has everything you ever wanted in a book. If you want it, it's there. Another thing I appreciated was the romance. Usually I don't like romance in literature that much, but in this book it was very well done.
Further Comments...
This book is a hard one to find because it is out of print and very rare. Most of the time you can find it at your library, or by ordering it through another branch. I'd save buying it for the real fanatics like myself, because the price is steep. I was willing to pay for it because I know it is something priceless that I will never cease to love. Every time I re-read it, I find something new and re-discover how great it is. If you do decide to buy it, you can buy it used for usually $180 upwards. But there are always the people who don't know it's value, so be on the lookout. I know that sounds evil of me, but I personally didn't have that much money to spend so I had to buy it in the below $100 level (and that's the cheap one?). But libraries are our gifts from God, and use them well! :)
