Summary of this Book...
Radio astronomer Ellie Arroway has made the discovery of a lifetime...a radio message sent from somewhere among the star Vega. Encrypted in the Message is the first major television broadcast, that of Adolf Hitler in the 1934 Olympics, and the instructions for building a Machine. Throughout the book, Ellie must also deal with religious zealots who think the Message is from Satan and that Aarmagedon is near, and her own feelings of love for the President's science advisor and her suffering relationship with her mother.
I especially liked...
The descriptions were very good. I'm terrible with math and science, and there is a lot in the book, but Sagan was careful with his detail so as not to overwhelm those of us who are merely average when it comes to those subjects. =) Plus, there is always a comedy break, especially with the Soviet scientists.
I didn't like...
I really haven't found too much that was negative with it, at least not yet.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
I haven't finished it yet! But it's such an awesome book, that I had to write about it anyway.
This Book made me feel...
Excited, scared, nervous....
I recommend this Book because...
Does all of the above count?
Further Comments...
The odd part about the book is that Sagan wrote it in 1985, describing what he thought life would be like today. He certainly didn't expect the fall of the USSR, nor that we would be enemies with Iraq. Also amusing is that humans are living in orbit, which we certainly are not at the moment.
