Summary of this Book...
Screenwriting!

Having this book next to you as your write your screenplay is the next best thing to having a teacher there with you.

Ms. King uses a straightforward approach that many of us need. Her method of movie writing is "just do it." Don't think, just do. The thinking will come later when it's time to edit!
I especially liked...
the way she teaches readers to make use of the 3X5 cards (a standard tool so prevalent in scriptwriting, even software programs have versions of it). She teaches you just what each card should contain, and helps you structure them as a complete work so you can get down to the business of writing.
I didn't like...
The book was written in 1988. A few things have changes since then as far as writing in camera direction goes. She explains when and how to use such directions as CUT TO, and DISSOLVE TO even though such directions are mostly outdated. Those directions are considered the director's calls, and not to be 'directed' by the writer.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Go pick up some more 3x5 cards and get busy.
This Book made me feel...
as though I could really do this, despite my own penchant for self-sabotage when it comes to getting my work out there.
The author of this Book...
From the back cover of the book: "Viki King is a writer, script consultant and lecturer. Since 1968 she has written for such prime time shows as "Three's Company" and "Hart to Hart." As a script consultant she has a wide clientele of screenwriters . . ." You can learn the rest when you buy the book.
I recommend this Book because...
It's written in an easy to understand way that'll get you excited about writing screenplays.
Further Comments...
I found the opening of her acknowledgements section to be very interesting!

"Thanks to Syd Field. I recommend to you, as I do to my students, his books 'Screenplay' and 'The Screenwriter's Workbook.' (I tell my students he is the father of structure. They call me the mother of content.)"
