Summary of this Book...
An Arbian Courtier, Ibn Fadlan who is sent from the City of Peace, Bagdad, to Bulgaria by his Caliph. On the way, his party meets up with a group of Vikings who bury their King. A messanger comes asking for help from the head man Buliwyf and the aged crone pronounces that 13 men must go and fight the mist monsters. The 13th warrior must not, however, be a northman.
I especially liked...
The fact that this is a true story. It was written about 922 a.d. and over the years has been discussed by many different people. Crichton took these many different translations and views and formed them together to get the most realistic out of the story. He also leaves little footnotes throughout the story explaining phrases of words, actions etc., helping the reader to better understand what is happening.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
I just finished it, there is nothing I have a great urge to do, except that this book strengthen my resolve to continue my research of the vikings nad Germanic people for a story I would like to write in the future.
This Book made me feel...
Interested.
The author of this Book...
Is very good. You can tell that his stories are well researched and a lot of thought, especially philosophie, is put into their writings.
I recommend this Book because...
It is history. A very nerv racking, interest-binding telling of history where I can garentee you will not fall asleep!
