Werewolves-kind of. It starts of with the main character of the story, well one of them anyway, called Felicity Stafford who finds out that her husband has been conning the Social Services and the bank, plus the insurance company, with false payments. So annoyed and betrayed, she gets ready to pack up and leave him, taking her daughter, Bryony, with her. Only she doesn't get very far, she gets a visit from the police before she gets a chance to pack, her husband is dead.

At the funeral for her husband, Felicity meets into a strange man who looks like her departed husband, it turns out that his man is her husband's brother. He offers to help her by giving her a job and small-time home at a monks retreat near the Scottish border, so she takes the offer. Only things aren't as black and white as she had hoped and her husband's brother has a horrible secret, a secret that goes back hundreds of years.

Meanwhile on an unreal Scottish island, a man called Piers Adair is investigating a very old and out of place culture of people who seem to be linked to the myth of werewolves. What he finds out though is beyond what he expected, and he ends up having to look into his own past to uncover his own dark history.

The feel of the story, it's set in Britian of this century and it's story is mostly set in England with some good history telling pieces in Scotland.

The characters are fluid and easily mix well into the settings, plus the little girl has some wonderfully well written scenes that really take you into the mind of a child with a very powerful and very interesting imagination.

Some of the Felicity scenes, they seemed a little tacked on and tended to take ages to get to the meat of the story, she seems to be quite the worry wart in the story and she's never given a good amount of reality in her character.

Find another book like it, I was actually quite gripped by the story when the history scenes rolled in and Bryony's scenes are just amazing, plus the gory scenes can have you putting down your cream piece and eating it later, they can be very, very descriptive.

Tiny bit sore, was so gripped by the story that I hadn't noticed I was sitting in a very uncomfortable angle.

This is the first book of her's I've read and I like it, no, I love it, she's got a very good way of making the reader keep reading and her characters can be so lifelike that you easily get into their characters. She's also excellent with her settings and detail, I'm going to be looking out for the rest of her books for sure, especially if their this good.

It's Little Red Riding Hood with gore and set in the 20th and slightly 21st century setting. If you can stand the heavy gore used in some of the scenes, then you'll love this story, especially the history that's been written, excellent.

It might be a little too gory for some people and it can drag on a bit with the Felicity scenes, better to get it from the library.

I think this book is Britian only as I couldn't find it in Amazon.com, only Amazon.co.uk. If so then any American and other overseas readers will have to mail order it probably. It's worth it though in my opinion, the story is strong and gripping, the characters are excellent, the settings are beautifully described and the writing style is refreshing. Pick yourself up a copy when you can, it's a howling good read-I COULDN'T RESIST! An excellent book, here's hoping her other ones are as good as this.
