Summary of this Book...
I must say that after reading "Gone With The Wind," by Margaret Mitchell, most books pale in comparison. I couldn't help wanting to read "Scarlett," though, after the rather frustrating ending of Mitchell's book.

I can't say that I enjoyed this book that much, or that it was that spectacular--it's a good book, for the most part well written, but never near as good as the first book about Scarlett O'Hara.
I especially liked...
There were certain moments in the book when Ripley's writing is very inspiring, maybe even verging on being almost as good as Mitchell's worst. *Smile* The story, however, makes a lot of sense, and Scarlett's transformation as a character is very logical and very well thought-out. I believe that Ripley's idea for the conclusion to Scarlett's story was very good, but could have been better carried out (especially if Mitchell had written it, instead).
I didn't like...
The ending. Unlike the ending to "Gone With The Wind," which I hated and loved at the same time, this ending disappointed me. I began reading the book at seven o'clock at night, and finished it at exactly five o'clock a.m., reading nearly non-stop. Nearing the end of the book Ripley's writing seemed to get better and better, then all of a sudden the quality dropped dramatically. I got the feeling that Ripley was building up to a more satisfying end, but got impatient and wanted to end it quickly.
Further Comments...
Just as I reccommended the movie "Gone With The Wind," I reccommend the movie for "Scarlett," much more than I reccommend the book. The movie, somehow, is much more satisfying and seems to be a more genuine continuation of Scarlett and Rhett's story.
