Summary of this Book...
Sir Douglas Campbell has been murdered in his own home. It is up to his two sons, Stephan and William, to solve the crime. Stephan has no doubt the culprit is his father's oldest rival and adversary, Lord Joseph Turnbull, and would be willing to take matters into his hands, meting out justice with his sword. William, a pacifist by nature, would sooner go through proper channels, and see that Turnbull is brought to justice with proper evidence and a trial. Stephan sees William as soft, and William sees Stephan as hot-headed, but the two Campbells must work through their differences to work together to avenge Sir Douglas.
I especially liked...
The relationship between Stephan and William is multi-layered and fraught with normal sibling rivalry, though their brotherly bond is fierce and strong.

I also enjoyed the setting very much. Ms. Coffey has a keen sense of scenery. I could easily picture the 16th century English countryside, the houses, rooms and clothing by her vivid, yet concise descriptions.

I didn't like...
The dialect was thick in certain sections, but once I was used to it, the thick Irish of the main villain seemed perfectly natural.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Find out more! There are sequels coming . . . I HOPE!
The author of this Book...
Has a gift for detail without becoming verbose. Her dialog is well formed, setting the time and place, and moving the plot along nicely. There are no wasted scenes.
I recommend this Book because...
It is a good old fashioned swashbuckler. There are sword fights, and horses, damsels in distress and romance! It's thick on plot and light on fluff, and the story grabs from page one.
Further Comments...
This is the first book in a planned series featuring the adventures of Stephan and William Campbell.
