Summary of this Book...
Irene Gut, later Irene Gut Opdyke, is a women with an extrodinary tale to tell. This book follows her days through the war, when Hitler had put the Final Solution into action. Irene was a jew, but because of her German name and features, she managed to get a job in a German house as a waitress. An elderly Major living there asked her if she could come and work at a new house he had brought. In the cellar of this house, she hid and fed a number of Jews, who would have otherwise been killed. She did this at the risk of her own life. This book is one of the best real life stories I have read to date.
This type of Book is good for...
People who enjoy reading accounts of other people.
I especially liked...
The fact that none of this was made up, and that someone could have such will power against Hitler.
I didn't like...
The harshness of Hitler and the things he done.
This Book made me feel...
Awed that someone would risk their own life for the sake of others.
The author of this Book...
It was written by Jennifer Armstrong, but the person telling the story was Irene Gut Opdyke, the lady who saved a number of Jews from Hitler.
I recommend this Book because...
There was nothing in the content that did not mesmerize me.
Further Comments...
The middle of this book also contains photos of the Major and his house, Irene and her four sisters before and after the war as well as reunions between the Irene and the people she saved.
