This book deals with the concept of MAD (mutual assured destruction), and what life might have been like if Russia and America traded nuclear missles.

It takes place in Florida, where Randy Bragg and his brother Mark grew up. In the story, Randy's brother is in a special area of the Air Force, and has access to information which leads him to believe that there will be a war very soon.

Randy finds himself with several thousand dollars of brother's money, preparing for the worst, and waiting for his sister-in-law and niece and nephew to arrive.

That and the realization of what type of war the United States could be getting involved in-- and exactly all that war could mean.

People interested in the remifications of nuclear warfare, and alternative history. It also reminds you of what our society used to be like.

I liked how thought out this bookk was, and the writing style kept me interested.

I also liked how everyone became a bit more equal when disaster struck.

There were parts where you remember how old this book is. It is historically rather acurate, but takes place in a time where it was astonding, and a sign how far society had fallen when a woman becomes president, and when African-Americans are still in the midst of gaining rights in society.

This isn't usually my type of book; but it was well written, and it was an interesting to see an exploration of what many Americans at that time truely feared.

It also made me glad that this hasn't happened; it would be a definate change that I think I would prefer to live without.
