Summary of this Book...
Ride The Wind is a fictional account of the real-life abduction of Cynthia Ann Parker and her life with the free-spirited and violent Comanches. They called her Naduah, Keeps Warm With Us, and over time, accepted her as one of their own. She even became the wife of the Comanche war-chief, Peta Nacona (Wanderer) and mother of the last free war-chief, Quanah Parker. The book details all facets of the Comanche life and how they survived in a harsh and unforgiving land while struggling to maintain their lifestyle and fighting back the advances of the white settlers.
This type of Book is good for...
Furthering ones understanding of Native Americans, how they lived and the tragic results of the white invasion.
I especially liked... | ||
The descritions of the methods Comanche used for survival. The teachings of Naduah's foster grandmother, Medicine Woman, are enthralling. There really is no good guy or bad guy in this book. Lucia St. Clair Robson tells the story from both the point of view of the Comanches and the point of view of the white men. Both were equally responsible for a whole slew of atrocities.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Scream. I was so incensed and outraged by the ignorance of the white settlers and their pompous indifference towards the native peoples.
This Book made me feel...
Joy, hope, sadness, regret, fear and anger. This book honestly changed my life and made me want to become an advocate for the remaining Native American tribes who are wallowing in disgusting poverty even as we speak.
The author of this Book...

It is a wonderfully realized work of historical fiction that changes you for the better.
Further Comments... | ||
Anyone who is old enough to handle the mature themes and vivid violence of this novel should read it. There have been few tales in modern times that have even come close to the emotional force of an epic such as "Ride The Wind".
