Summary of this CDs & Vinyl...
A very non-traditional Christian tribute to the Season of Love, Christmas.
I especially liked... | ||
ZOEgirl's "Angels We Have Heard On High", MercyMe's "What Child Is This?", TobyMac's "This Christmas". Also, Audio Adrenaline's "Little Drummer Boy" totally rocked. And I mean rocked. A few of the other songs were good, too. My favorite song of all (and the one that is definitely worth a listen in my humble opinion) was Plus One's rendition of "A Prayer for Every Year" with new, more uplifting lyrics. Santa Clause has never really impressed me much, and songs sung to him always made me stop and wonder what exactly adults were thinking (or, uh, smoking, ) when they wrote them. This takes the old song (which is a addressed to the jolly man himself) and instead channels that love and devotion to the real Gift-Giver at Christmas time. Even if I hated the rest of this album, I still would have been glad to have heard this song at least once in my life.
I didn't like... | ||
most of the songs to be honest. In glancing at the track listing, I thought to myself "Wow! There are some really great artists here! I'll definitely love this!" But in the end it was far from 'love' that I felt for the album. Some of the tracks (like Avalon's "Winter Wonderland") sound entirely over-processed and as I read another person's review, "cacophonous". However, there are 2 CDs so chances are you'll find something you like.
The n/a of this CDs & Vinyl...
are some of the most popular faces, er, sounds, in Christian music. Songs by, Jaci Velasquez, TobyMac, Kirk Franklin, Avalon, Michael W. Smith, CeCe Winans, Third Day, Jeniffer Knapp, and many others!
I recommend this CDs & Vinyl because...
There are 2 CDs so chances are you'll find at least one song you'll like. I personally found a few that were really great.
I don't recommend this CDs & Vinyl because...
although some songs are worth it, unless you can get a really low price for this album (Like say $12.75 @ most Target stores), you most likely won't find it worth your money. There is such a variance of style that I don't think anyone could possibly like enough of the songs to make this album worth the list price, $21.95.
Further Comments... | ||
This is a really hard album to rate, because some songs really brought the rating down, while other's were simply stupendous. I've given it a "5" for Length, because there are simply so many songs, that you can really pick and choose. Sound Quality gets a "3" because some of the songs were so horrible I couldn't actually listen the whole way through. It marred some of the songs that actually were good in some cases. Artist gets a "4" because most of these artist are really great. They just don't shine with these Christmas picks. Overall I give it "4" though some songs deserve much worse, and some much better. Bottom Line: If traditional Christmas music is all you're open to, DON'T buy this album. If you, however, have an more of an open mind when choosing your Christmas tunes, its at least worth a trial listen.
