Summary of this Book...
Claire is a young, vibrant woman who was born in the sixties. Henry is an older man who was born only eight chronological years before Claire, but he has an illness that repeatedly forces him to defy his age. Yes, Henry is a time traveler. Neither by choice nor happenstance, Henry and Claire meet in his future, and her past. Will these two ever find peace in such tumultuous circumstances?
This type of Book is good for...
Time travel genre enthusiasts. Romance, fiction, and science fiction lovers. Those who want to think... and for those who want to feel.
I especially liked... | ||
The diary entry type of format. Henry and Claire are not actually writing in a diary to tell their stories, rather the author has cunningly setup each chapter to begin with either, 'HENRY:' or 'CLAIRE:' In doing this, the author sweeps aside the confusion the reader would experience for the point of view is in limited omniscient- for each main character (Claire and Henry).
I didn't like... | ||
The beginning was so technical in places it was a bit frustrating as I didn't understand the theories presented. However, upon further reading I realized this was probably the author's intention, as it did make for a great ending.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Write a review... something I rarely do. I did give it to people to read, it's still at my mother's in her 'To Read' pile. Can't wait until I can discuss it with someone else who has read it.
This Book made me feel...
Happy, sad, and glad that I live only in the present.
The author of this Book...
Is ASTOUNDING. I am always amazed when a new author comes on the scene and their book is not only a bestseller, but is also what I would consider to be a lifetime achievement. Truly a great work, excellent diction and there are no obvious grammatical errors. Can't wait to read more from her.
I recommend this Book because...
It is very unique. To see the way the two main characters deal with such an unlikely and unfair fate is remarkable in its seeming simplicity.
Further Comments... | ||
Although this novel at first reminded me of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series due to the theme and the female character's name, I quickly realized that this, unlike that outstanding series, is not historical but rather a psychological fiction novel. This book will make you think, and certainly it will make you laugh. How would you juggle your job and marriage around time traveling without a moment's notice? How far would you go to end the madness? Read The Time Traveler’s Wife and you will be treated to a humorous, romantic, and often serious rumination on the need for Father Time.
