Jeremy is a psychologist who has survived the brutal murder of his fiancee, though it has left him somewhat nunmbed. Her killer was never caught and his past with her haunts him; stopping him from carrying on with his life in a meaningful way. He meets a pathologist (Arthur) who tries to befriend him but then, when Jeremy finally relents and accepts a dinner invitation, pulls away from him, leaving Jeremy to wonder what he did wrong. He begins investigating the pathologist, who has left on a trip out of the country. In the mean time, new murders have occured that seem to be related to the murder of his fiancee and the detective who investigated her case is hounding Jeremy. He also begins receiving mysterious items in his interoffice mail. Along the way he meets a beautiful intern and romance begins to slowly bloom.

People who don't want too much suspense or excitement, but want to just flow along with the characters.

How the author ties things up in the end.

The incredibly slow pace of the book. Things were as dull as the main character's feelings have been since the murder of his fiancee. Things never really pick up until the very end, and even then it was easy to put the book down at any given moment.

Read a new book filled with action and suspense.

Listless, bored, and only the tiniest bit curious about who the killer might be.

Usually does a better job. His characters are usually more meaningful and there is typically much more danger and suspense involved. His use of fragmented sentences as a style through out this book was also a change from his norm-- and annoying at times.

There is so much more out there that you could be reading instead.
