The Princess Amethyst was the seventh Princess of Phantasmorania so of course she was the most beautiful of all. That is she was, right up till her christening day when an angry fairy decided she deserved to be ordinary. And that's just what she is, not like a princess at all.
When the ordinary Princess discovers plans to lock her in a tower and hire a dragon to lay waste to the country side in order to marry her off (no one wants to marry an ORDINARY Princess) she wasn't happy. in fact she was so distressed at her findings that she runs away to the forest.
Amy eventually finds work as a kitchen maid in the palace of Ambergeldar, where she finds happiness, contentment and true love!

Girls. I don't think ANY guy can EVER enjoy this book as much as a girl, if at all.

The little things that are thrown in. They make the book almost quaint. Things like the fairy Custacia's carriage being pulled by fifty golden frogs!

The chapters are a little on the long side, especially for reading out loud.

Read it to someone.

M. M. Kaye, she's a well established author (and illustrates some of her own work) but this is the only book of hers I've read.

It's great! One of my all time favorites.

It makes you want to read it again and again and again...

This book is great for all ages. My mother loved it, My twent-five-year-old sister liked it so much that when we were reading it together she finished without me.
It's a great book, an all time classic. Read it, you'll like it. If you read it please give me your opinion.
