I like to write historical/gangster/romance and this is one of the books that I use. It gives a realistic view of my county, Williamson County, during the notorious 1920s telling a lot about the turbulent era. Old timers still talk of the old days when Charlie Birger and his gang roamed the streets and backroads of this county.

I wanted to write a novel using the historical data collected in this non-fiction book.

The book enlilghtened me of the bloody ways my county conducted business during the Prohibition Era.

Paul M. Angle, was secretary of the Abraham Lincoln Association frojm 1925 to 1932 and librarian of the Illinois State Historical Library and Illinois State Historian from 1932 to 1945. He died in 1975.

History lovers, especially those who love Prohibition tales would enjoy reading this book.
