This story wants to be about a grand passion- but falls short of this. Mostly because the heroine, Cassie Brougham, goes through so many tortuous events ( kidnapping, rape, abduction, rape, imprisonment, miscarriage, beatings, and lastly a sabre wound)that it challenges the reader's ability to believe that she ultimately ends up a happy woman (as we all know all a woman needs is a wedding band and a baby). The hero- Anthony Welles- the Earl of Clare- is stand offish, arrogant and we never get the warm fuzzies for him. I actually reread it- and now I wonder why. There's lots of action and lots of sex- perhaps this managed to distract me from the unbelievable factor.

Approaches sex differently from most romance authors. She often has the heroine suffer some kind of traumatic instance in the marital bed- sex is now always the best thing for her women. Perhaps more realistic than we like to think- and perhaps thats a good thing.
