Women didn't have very many rights in the portrayed society; the way it worked had certain restrictions-- this didn't bother me too much, as it is a fantasy after all, and Mara is usually getting her way-- I just was irritated for the character at some of her life's restrictions.

Read the next one! There was always something happening, holding your attention. This book has a fast pace-- oh, and if you do read it, I would try to find a stopping place inside a chapter. The end of the chapter tended to throw some new exciting information out.

I enjoyed it. It did a good job of holding my attention.

Mara is a desperate character sometimes; you usually expect the bad guy to kill people, but Mara isn't all goodness and light either. She sets out to marry someone, with the unspoken intention of killing him if she can't manipulate him. Also, the husband is occationally abusive... these are a couple reasons.
