We join Roland Deschain of Gilead as the last of the Gunslingers in a world that is similar to our own, although it has since "moved on". He journeys across the desert after the Man in Black, many years after his journey has begun.

As he travels, you are acquainted with his world and the sense of urgency in his journey - not only to catch up with the Man in Black, but also to find the Dark Tower.

Roland meets a boy named Jake Chambers in the middle of the desert, who he eventually comes to love like a son. The two continue their journey to catch up with this elusive Man in Black.

A good read full of a lot of action and story.

I really like that the author puts the reader right into the thick of things from the get-go.

I didn't like that more background story wasn't given in the pages of this book.

I wanted to read the second book right away, so that I couldn't forget the details from the first and follow Roland further on his journey.

I was excited while reading this book. It is full of suspense and action.

The author of this book is one of my favorites! He does an awesome job capturing the reader and putting him into the middle of the story without awkward entrance.

I recommend this book because it is one of the best stories I have ever read.

I have no reasons to not recommend this book.

I have read this book many times over, both the original edition and the revised edition. There isn't much of a difference between the two, other than some minor changes to align the first story with the later installments.
