Summary of this Book...
This book provides insight on how to work with children who have been damaged by abuse and neglect. Author Daniel Hughes provides a fictional story about a young girl growing up in the foster care system after being severly neglected, and abused, by her biological parents. The young girl has been siginificantly affected by the abuse and neglect, evidenced by her inability to form healthy attachments with people. This book explores this little girl's struggle and victory with overcoming reactive attachment disorder, as well as clinical insight into her journey.
This type of Book is good for...
Anyone who works with children, especially those who are troubled, or have been abused and neglected. This would be a particularly good reference for anyone working in the mental health field, as well as foster care providers.
I especially liked...
The way this book was set up. It told both a (fictitious) story, and provided clinical insight at the end of each chapter.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Hug the little girl, and every other child who suffers from reactive attachment disorder, abuse, and neglect. I also wanted to use what I learned in this book and apply it to my own job.
This Book made me feel...
many different things...sad, shocked, disappointed, frustrated, happy, elated, tearful.
The author of this Book...
Daniel A. Hughes
I recommend this Book because...
It provides a vast array of useful information and insight into working with troubled children.
Further Comments...
I was completely addicted to this book from the moment I started reading it.
