There are two types of teens in the city: Greasers, named for the grease they lather in their hair, and Socs, short for 'Socials'. The Greasers are vulgar and overly-emotional; the Socs are violent and wealthy. Ponyboy Curtis is a Greaser, living with his two brothers, Darry and Soda, as their parents died years before. They struggle to survive along with their fellow Greasers in constant battle with the Socs.

Any teen who is torn about their identity should read this book. The Greasers feel too much, the Socs feel too little. All teens feel divided between emotions and carelessness.

I liked the way the book was full of emotional action. The physical imparted on the emotional significantly--much more so than what is visible to outsiders.

I was inspired to write an essay about my own 'insiders', the partitions between my own over-emotions and under-emotions.

Reality takes a better form after reading this book. Sadly, nothing gold can stay.

This book was written on the authors own experiences.

Everyone needs to be reminded about the truths of life.
