Summary of this Book...
Many would call this the fifth book in Card's "Ender" series, but I call it the first in the "Bean" series. Now, it does take place in the reality set forth by Ender's Saga, but we are not following Ender. I'm a big fan of the Ender Saga, but it took me a long time to get around to reading this book and I'm sorry it took me so long. This book goes over the same "historical" events as Ender's Game, only we follow Bean this time -- an orphan that grew up on the streets of Rotterdam. A nun working for the International Fleet recognizes his genius and sees to his admission to battle school, where the fate of all mankind rests on the ingenuity of the brightest children of the generation.
This type of Book is good for...
Readers looking for -- as I like to call it -- Sci-Fi with a heart. There is so much to read into Card's works and I found myself marking ideas that caught my attention as I read along.
I especially liked... | |||
Seeing the events in Ender's Game through Bean's eyes. It's a wonderful book even if you haven't read the Ender Saga, but those who have read it get a double bonus.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Read it again...and get onto writing my Sci-Fi book.
I recommend this Book because...
It not only appeals to the Sci-Fi audience, but to any audience looking for relatable characters. The struggles may be Sci-Fi in that the enemy is an alien race, but the stress is on the protagonists and their struggles. It is a truly inspiring tale, indeed.
