Summary of this Book...
The fast-paced plot of this book is very similiar in content and style to this author's mega-hit, "The Da Vinci Code". It is about a man who is called in to help solve murders and mysteries at the Vatican, with subsequent religious and moral overtones. There are gruesome murders and a ticking bomb of anti-matter which provides constant suspence. The evil group the Vatican must wrestle is called the Illumanata, an ancient group of scientists who had Galileo as a member. The story takes place in modern Rome and the Vatican. The question being posed is: will the hero save the world?
This type of Book is good for...
A very suspensefull read; entertainment. To compare with Dan Brown's later book; this was not quite as well developed and focused more on sensationalism.
I especially liked...
The moral delimmas facing the religious and scientific community and the questions of resonsibility the story posed. The superb plot developements and the breathless pace. The gut wrenching suspence! The religious overtones.
I didn't like...
The gruesome and graphic murders - the reader could have used the imagination! I would have liked more character developement. The tone at the end of the book sounded like a re-write-stuck-on-hurry-up-get-it-over-with end. The end, where people are falling from the sky, seemed entirely implausable.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Sleep. I was exhausted!
This Book made me feel...
Confused at the end, by some unbelievable plot twists, but admiring of how the plot points were all set up at the very beginning of the story, and how the story wove back to them.
The author of this Book...
Is a talented writer of main-stream fiction. Has mastered the art of timing! Has another movie just waiting to be made!
I recommend this Book because...
It is great story and entertaining.
I don't recommend this Book because...
The graphic murders of religious icons might offend some people.
Further Comments...
I was curious about the cult called The Illuminata, and this story, though fictionalized, exposes some facts about the ancient cult, with information about Galileo and other famous Italian scuptures, as well as taking the reader on a whirlwind scavenger-hunt through ancient places of Rome, as a time bomb of anti-matter ticks away.
