It's a love-drama story or as I say, a "girly" book. This is about a woman who has the desire to become a geisha. She struggles through long and short term conflicts and reflects about the past. The culture is heavily influenced as well.

This is good for people who have a curiousity of the Japanese culture. Well, a '30s pictorial of Japan. It goes through WWII and how THERE lives changed from the loss.

The details. The author wrote and wrote and wrote about the atmosphere, characters, and the dresses, but not enough to bore the reader.

The culture. I took Japanese for one semester and was very disappointed our class didn't go through the history. This gave me the ideal of what a woman's life was like from the '30s-'50s. Very pleased.

READ THE BOOK FIRST. Trust me. Don't do like I did and watch the movie before reading.

Take it back to the library. It was 3 days late.

Spoke the language and lived in Japan for over 15 years. This guy knows what he's talking about.

It's great! It shows that the world isn't ruled by men, and that women are as ruthless to a certain degree.
