Elizabeth Bennett is the second oldest of five girls in a time when marriage (and children) are a woman's duty. None of the Bennett girls are married. A rich man, Mr. Bingley moves to their small town. He falls in love with Elizabeth's older sister, Jane. Elizabeth is interested in Bingley's friend, the wealthy Mr. Darcy. But Darcy slights her by saying she isn't pretty enough for him, and Elizabeth is detrimined to hate him for all eternity. Then Darcy begins to fall in love with Elizabeth (even though he believes her to be inferior to him in every way).

Throughout the book, pride makes both prejudice, and prejudice makes both proud.

1. Those who want to study how our prejudices and our pride can affect us and those around us.

2. Anyone who wants to read a really good classic.

3. Any one who's a sucker for romance.

How there was one conflict after another. When one situation was resolved another came up. There was never a moment when I wondered, "What's keeping them apart?" In some romances it seems the only conflict is the author trying to drag the story on. Not in this on.

The first time I read this book, I could barely understand the author's writing style. This is not because she's a bad writer (she's excellant). It's because we no longer write nor speak in this way. Remember, Austen lived and wrote in early 19th century England. At that time things were written very formally and very wordy. You'll want to read this book more than once to get a full understanding of it and to see Austen's genius.

I also think the part with Wickham is too long. But that's probably because I hate him, not the actual length.

Think about my own prejudices and how my pride and prejudices might be affecting my life and my relationships with others.

I mean, what if I miss out on the love of my life because of my own prejudices? It made me re-exam myself.

Happy, satisfied, hopeful.

I think this Austen's best book. It shows that she's educated, observant, witty, serious, fun, and very intelligent.

It's a book you can read for it's culture and insights. It really makes you think. At the same time, you can read just for fun.

This is my favorite book and I have read it a million times. Each time I learn something new. It's wonderful.
