Summary of this DVD... | ||
Patrick MacGoohan stars in one of the most thought-provoking TV series of all time, the timeless story of one man's battle against forces that seek to erase his identity and soul in a quest for ultimate control of the human spirit. MacGoohan's character is an honorable and moral man who served his country (Britain), but who eventually became disillusioned and decided to quit the spy business, due to the corruption and decay he saw creeping into the highest levels of government. The day he resigns, he is drugged and transported to a secret location which he comes to know only as "The Village". After his initial attempts to escape all fail, he realizes that his only means of deliverance will be to work within the system- one that intends to destroy his sense of identity, morals, values-possibly even his life- through any means necessary, if he does not cave in to their demands. Number Six thus begins an epic battle that will test him to the limit of his physical and mental endurance, as various Number Two's take turns trying to break his spirit, through the use of torture, propaganda, drug therapy, psychosurgery, and indoctrination (to name just a few). This is possibly the greatest show ever broadcast on television, and it poses questions that need answering: What is the cost of freedom? What is the worth of a soul? What is identity? What is reality? Are there absolutes in this world? Are any of us truly free? Watch this show the first time for entertainment, and the second time for enlightenment. | ||
