Bending Time is a collection of short stories with time, in some fashion, as the recurring theme. The book is divided into three sections: Bending Time and Memory; Time in Exile; and Time in the American City. All 12 of these stories by Stephen Minot have appeared in major periodicals.

short story lovers, especially if you like great character development and are fascinated by the concept of time, which I am.

that each story was very different, even with the recurring theme; and the characters were well developed. For me the stories got better the more I read.

In part one I was intrigued by A Sometimes Memory where a mother of two finds herself in the middle of a family gathering without knowing quite who everyone is or why she is there.

In part two, I liked See You Around about two very different brothers with something in common.

And my favorite, in part three and maybe in the whole book, was The Senator’s Son where a U.S. Senator is coping with his estranged son, home for his mother’s funeral.

…well, I wasn’t sure when I started that I wanted to read the whole book. I had never read anything by Minot before. I picked the book strictly for the time theme.
