Summary of this Book...
“Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.” - C. S. Lewis Like so many others I read ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ as a child and fell in love with the story. When I was given this set for my birthday 15 years later I was thrilled to be able to revisit this fantastic world with a new perspective and appreciation. The adventure begins when friends Digory and Polly are transported to another world in ‘The Magician’s Nephew’. Written as a prequel, the story is set during the creation of Narnia and introduces Aslan and the White Queen. The story continues several years later when four children escaping the blitz are sent to live in the country with an eccentric professor. When Lucy finds a gateway to Narnia, they become entangled in a traditional fight of good versus evil. The only book set solely in Narnia, ‘The Horse and His Boy’ is the charming story of a young boy about to be sold into slavery who escapes with Bree, a talking beast, in search of his true home. ‘Prince Caspian’ sees the return of Peter, Edmund, Susan and Lucy to Narnia, when they are summoned there to help the young prince reclaim the throne as the rightful heir. The adventure continues with Caspian and new character Edmund in ‘The Voyage of the Dawn Treader’ as they search for the seven missing lords on a journey that takes them to the edge of the world. Running away from school bullies, Edmund and Jill find themselves in Narnia on a quest to find the kidnapped son of the now old and dying Caspian in ‘The Silver Chair’. The story comes to an end in ‘The Last Battle’. When an Aslan impostor forces all Narnians to work for the Calmorenes, the two worlds are brought together for the final time, and the story of Narnia reaches its shocking conclusion. Great for children and adults alike, this is a must read for any fan of fantasy.
