Summary of this Book...
When Sir Charles Baskerville is found dead at his estate, friend Dr James Mortimer enlists the help of Sherlock Holmes to investigate the mysterious death. Revealing that animal footprints were found near the body, Mortimer believes that Sir Charles was killed by the ‘Hound of the Baskervilles’, the creature of a curse rumoured to haunt the Baskerville family. Initially dismissing the rumours as superstition, Holmes sends assistant Dr Watson to the Baskerville estate to investigate and offer protection to Henry Baskerville, the last heir to the estate. It soon becomes clear that there is hidden motive to Sir Charles’ death, but is there more to the haunting Hound? Possibly the most famous of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s novels, this is the first Sherlock Holmes story I have read. While familiar with the story, I was addicted to the book. A crime novel full of twists and turns and superbly written ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’ remains as popular today as 100 years ago.
