A brilliant, friendly discussion on the way Stephen King writes, delving somewhat into his youth to reveal some of the sources of his inspiration for such novels as "Carrie", "'Salem's Lot", "The Tommyknockers" and others. He attempts to answer some of the more frequently asked questions about his writing, his ideas, the how-to's and the why's. It's a colorful, frank book with a great deal of excellent advice. It opens with stories from his childhood which are very entertaining to read, and as the book progresses you understand why he chose those particular tales. A wonderful, educational and enlightening read.

Anyone willing to challenge the way they write and the standard doctrines by which we're told we *should* write.

The humor, the fact that he discusses himself and his past mistakes with no holds barred. I also love it that he challenges the whole concept of plot and outline, because that's rarely the way he writes.

Read it again, study it thoroughly.

Vindicated! Stephen King (like me) listens to rock music when he writes, and for the same reason. We also share similar views on plot.

Is one of the best writers alive today, in my humble opinion.

It opened my eyes to new possibilities in my writing and inspired me to try to rekindle the old joy.

The language used in this book is not for minors.
