Harper Connelly was struck by lightning when she was fifteen. Her heart stopped. For a brief period of time she was caught between the living and the dead. CPR brought her back to life, but from that day on she was tied to the world of the dead. She was drawn to where they lay, and when she connected with them, Harper knew how they died. She liked to think of her skill as a gift, at least it gave her the means to make a living. She traveled around the country with her step-brother Tolliver to help find lost people and determine how they died.

Harper and Tolliver travel to the Ozarks to find a missing girl. They find her body hidden in a wooded area outside of town. Her boyfriend’s body had been found months before, but contrary to popular belief, both the boy and the girl were murdered.

She did her job. Harper was paid to find the body and determine how she died. She was not a detective. Solving a murder was not part of the job description. Getting involved would be a mistake. Once the body was positively identified and they were paid for their services, Harper and Tolliver left town. Twenty-four hours they were forced to turn around and return. The sister of the victim had died under mysterious circumstances and now her mother was dead as well.

Harper and Tolliver’s efforts to stay clear of the swirling mass of murder, deception, and secrecy are foiled at every turn. As with most small towns, family and professional ties intersect and tangle. Lines are crossed…

Charlaine Harris is a gifted writer. Her characters are well developed with a depth that makes you feel like you know them. The undercurrents give the story an edgy need to know that will keep you turning the page. Grave Sight is a wonderful start to a great new series.
